Chiropractic, although many times misunderstood, is about helping people live healthier, fuller lives. While typically thought of as "bone doctors", chiropractors actually focus on the nervous system and painlessly, manually adjust the vertebral column in order to effect the nervous system.

What Is Chiropractic? The intention of the chiropractic adjustment is to remove any disruptions or distortions of this energy flow that may be caused by slight vertebral misalignments that we call subluxations. Chiropractors are trained to locate these subluxations and then to remove them, thereby restoring the normal flow of nerve energy in terms of both quality and quantity. The idea is that if the master system, which is the nervous system, is healthy and functioning well, then the other systems under its control will also function in a more optimal fashion.

Chiropractic Treatment has also proved to be a very effectice alternative to one of the most common arthroscopic surgeries performed in the United States arthroscopy for arthritis of the knee. Click here for more on Arthroscopic Knee Surgery.

What To Expect from Acupuncture Visits During your first office visit, the practitioner may ask you at length about your health condition, lifestyle, and behavior. The practitioner will want to obtain a complete picture of your treatment needs and behaviors that may contribute to your condition. Inform the acupuncturist about all treatments or medications you are taking and all medical conditions you have.

Acupuncture needles are metallic, solid, and hair-thin. People experience acupuncture differently, but most feel no or minimal pain as the needles are inserted. Some people feel energized by treatment, while others feel relaxed. Improper needle placement, movement of the patient, or a defect in the needle can cause soreness and pain during treatment. This is why it is important to seek treatment from a qualified acupuncture practitioner.

Treatment may take place over a period of several weeks or more.

Auriculotherapy is similar to ear acupuncture but it uses no needles. A electro-microcurrent stimulator is placed on reflex and meridian points outside the ear. This input then sends a message to the brain based on the location of the reflex point being treated.

Additionally, auriculotherapy is based on the human nervous system, whereas acupuncture is based on "energy meridians." Auriculotherapy is an FDA approved treatment for over 200 diseases, and has been shown to help with a variety of musculoskeletal diseases, chronic pain, insomnia, allergies, asthma, and much more, including such diverse problems as depression, anxiety treatment, and stress relief.
